Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can be a good source of extra damage, more AD or even more attachments.

Often times however upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade gear because of their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be used on weapons and armor items. They boost the performance of the item upgrading they're attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Additionally, they can be salvaged from items that have upgrade components inside them, with a professional or higher salvage kit.

The amount of damage an armored item or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the level of its upgrades. The absorption of damage by an armor piece will increase when it's upgraded to the highest upgrade level. However, it's important note that this will also increase its weight, causing it to weigh more than it was before.

There are a few different types of armor upgrades that are available in the game and they all have different effects. Certain upgrades grant armor an additional number of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade that an item will be given, as illustrated below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a combination of technology and magic, as indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Some upgrades also require charges to use, which are shown by the "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges for these upgrades are updated daily or never expire, dependent on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest option to upgrade your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small treasure chests. Titanium is more expensive, however it is obtainable from smelters located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to high level armor pieces. Weapons

All tiers of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a certain level to be able to get the privilege of having them. Jewels can be substituted with another one without damaging the original. However, you can only replace one jewel in an equipment piece only once.

Using more jewels in the movement can make it feel more comfortable and is typically done to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. The jewels can also enhance performance and create an outer layer that is more durable than steel, so that the repeated friction from pivots do not damage them.

A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the look of your weapons and shields. These are a small perk and are able to be swapped easily, but are not guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out, which returns them to the inventory. Trinkets

The first trinket that a player will be able to unlock is the cloak. It grants a small, but useful bonus in movement speed and evasion. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any equipment. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced and only work with certain trinkets.

These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't in combat. This allows a hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It also helps compensate for the lack of a good team or talent tree slots that are normally filled by the hero's best stats.

A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrader-in-Slot) items that you will not replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is especially true if an item upgrader kit has multiple stats you wish to upgrade, as it's usually better to upgrade a single crucial stat than two subpar ones.

Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one prior to the beginning of the game. Mid and top players, on the other hand they will select a green or a pink ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.
